When the Rev. Rik Rasmussen announced in October his plan to retire in January as St. Paul's rector, the Vestry began working with the Diocese of Nothern California to join a new Diocesan Curacy Pilot Program. The program pairs a larger, sponsoring congregation with a smaller partner congregation to share a curate (newly ordained) or assistant priest (ordained in the last 5 years) over a three-year commitment.
This pilot program will support six churches (three pairs) in the diocese and is aimed at strengthening congregations and supporting new clergy. St. Paul's is partnered with Trinity Cathedral, and the diocese is currently in the process of receiving applications for the program under the leadership of the Rev. Canon Julie Wakelee, the dioesan canon to the ordinary.
St. Paul's Associate Priest, the Rev. Anne Slakey, will preach and celebrate on the first and third Sundays of the month for the foreseeable future. Visiting clergy will be scheduled on the remaining Sundays through the interim period until a permanent clergy appointment is made.
