In August, St. Paul's debuted three new wall banners just in time for its 175th anniversary celebrations. Parishioner Charles Heermans designed the welcoming banners using the same flowing colors from the mural recently installed in the bricked up windows on the outside of St. Paul's church. He worked with another parishioner, Doug Clay, to cut and sew the concept to fruition.
Charles said he used his favorite scripture as inspiration – Hebrews 13:2-4 "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it."
The two banners framing the Ascension Window above St. Paul's altar bid welcome to strangers while the banner above the pulpit says, "Entertain Angels."
Rev. Rik agreed that connecting the colors of the mural, with its concept of inclusivity and openness, together with the scripture message on the banners further states St. Paul's values and mission. "We have entertained angels at St. Paul's many times in our ministries – especially our Sack Lunch ministry," he said.
