On Sunday, April 7, the Mary Magdalene Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of King installed two new members, prayed for a discerning member and rededicated its existing members.
The Daughters of the King is an Order for women whose mission is the extension of Christ's Kingdom – especially among women and girls – through prayer, service, and evangelism.
Rev. Rik, serving as Chaplain for St. Paul's chapter, led the service of Installation, Reaffirmation and Discernment during the regular Sunday worship service.
St. Paul's welcomed new members Amanda and Margaret and Rev. Rik presented them with the cross of the Order. Carol was presented with a candle and prayers as she discerns her interest in becoming a member of the Order. She will serve a three-month period of learning about the Order and its Rules. The current members then rededicated themselves to their vows of daily prayer, service and evangelism.
St. Paul's has a long history with the Daughters of the King going back to the 1890s.
The 1894 Sacramento Bee supplement Resources of Sacramento County noted the work of St. Paul's chapter of the time: “There are several well organized benevolent societies and institutions in Sacramento City… The Daughters of the King, St. Agnes Chapter of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, are doing much praiseworthy work in assisting the poor.”
